While Issue 941 conveniently confounded me for a Porsche design yesterday…I recalled the existence of 942 from memory. When you are Porsche family scion, clearly a gold watch is passe. So when Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (grandson of the original Ferdinand; son of “Ferry:) celebrated his 75th birthday in 1984, the factory gave him a unique longer larger, ‘proper’ 4 seater 928 variant. Given he was the original designer of the 911, it strikes me as a fair deal.

Phew, 941 is the one design so obscure we cannot find a Porsche to celebrate this issue of Exchange Invest, just as well as it’s a packed issue; so here goes:

Even a kerfuffle over the reality of R3’s 150 million dollar ledger cannot obscure the big news: the DB1-LSE deal is finally unravelling as indeed I felt was inevitable from the first moment this ill-conceived merger of equal desperation was devised.

It’s not dead yet… Continue reading

Welcome to Exchange Invest Issue 940 which correlates to the Porsche type number of the stillborn Indycar project which was sponsored by Interscope and expected to be driven by the Hawaiian Danny Ongais. Only a rather aged hack Parnelli P6B chassis was ever shown so far as I recall. The engine would later also power the 1981 Le Mans winning 936 of the legendary Jackie Ickx and Derek Bell pairing.

Issue 939 of Exchange Invest completes the trio of Porsche 924 GT machines. The 939 was the 1980 924 Carrera GTP prototype built for Le Mans. While the cars at one time ran a remarkable 6/7/8, they finished 6, 12 and 13. The 13th placed car incidentally was driven by Derek Bell and Al Holbert both of whom figure more in the story in a few weeks time…

And welcome to issue 938 of Exchange Invest Daily which corresponds to the Porsche 938, the type number given to the right hand drive version of the delectable 924 GT of which only 75 were made for British and Maltese roads (amongst other jurisdictions).

More remedies required than merely a slapdash sale of Clearnet (to its largest customer) for DB1-LSE apparently as British government lives down to its reputation for not understanding finance. FXCM plan to… Continue reading

If you think issue 937 of Exchange Invest is going to have issues with finding a groovy Porsche design to celebrate with then you will be relieved to know that the 937 is the rarely used title for the 924 Carrera GT: a homologation special for sports car racing with 406 produced including 19 full race cars. Perhaps the most delightful front engined Porsche ever produced.

Welcome to Exchange Invest Issue 936 which correlates with the fabulous 2.1 litre turbo group 6 spyder which won Le Mans in various guises, deploying a spaceframe based upon the legendary 917.

BM&F results, Germans patriotically attack British patriotism. British politicians to debate deal while NMCE-ICEX merger is rumoured. Lots of product news as Trinidad and Tobago SE unleashes new system.

Just as we ended last week with a bang of turbo lag and a simply stunning road car in the 930, today we’re ending the week with the ultimate racing version of the same purposeful device. Silhouette racing meant you had to retain the same essential shape as the road car and the engine in the same place but otherwise it was a chance to let the mind run wild. Between Zuffenhausen and Weissach, fertile minds cooked up the simply… Continue reading

Welcome to issue 934 of Exchange Invest which corresponds to the fabulous Porsche Group 4 racing version of the 930, a simply delightful endurance racer. Robust and remarkably swift, it was still competitive to the end of the Group 4 regulations in the early 1980’s by which time…oh we’ll get there in 22 newsletters time. Patience.

Speaking of patience, Vodafone upgraded one of their bean cans wrongly last night so I have had patchy email for some hours – please… Continue reading

So here we are at Issue 933 of Exchange Invest, which was a designation for studies for an SCCA Porsche 924 racer as well as a 1981-90 3.2-liter light airplane engine, marketed as PFM 3200…which reminds me of the amazing Giorgio Vico in Liguria who built a seaplane with the VW engine also used as the base for the 924 engine.
